Michal Bailey Band~ Detroit Blues you can’t ignore!
Michal Lee Bailey (Lead Guitar and Vocals) has his roots in the Metro-Detroit (MI) area. Michal began playing electric guitar and drums at age 13, and has led his own bands since he was 15 years old. He is a full time recording artist, songwriter, and touring artist. He has completed several nation wide tours, receiving rave reviews wherever he goes.
He has released two studio albums. His first album, released in 2003,"Devil's Ride”, was recorded at Reel Life Recorders in South Lyon, Michigan. It was critically acclaimed in Detroit, and was said to be "One of the best efforts to come out of Detroit in some time” by the Detroit Blues Society. The first pressing sold out and it has since been repressed.
His second full length album, released in 2009,"Can You Feel It", was recorded at the Tempermill in Ferndale, Michigan. It features 11 original tunes and as a bonus, features the legendary Johnny B Gayden on the bass guitar.
Typically playing around 200 dates per year, Michal and his road band ensure that sales of the CDs remain consistent, through constant touring, and a local circuit that keeps them working when they are off the road.
Stylistically, he is capable of playing just about every translation of blues possible-embracing the old, the new, and sometimes the futuristic. He pays homage to the vintage styles of playing while simultaneously recasting them in contemporary fashion. The Detroit Blues Society is quoted as saying “A remarkable guitarist….Transcendent guitar work that melds deep emotion with intelligent, well thought out guitar work. “ ~Mark E. Gallo- Detroit Blues Society.
Michal enjoys playing gigs all over the USA, including festivals and private parties. He was “The big surprise of the Blues (By the Bay) Festival” as quoted by Minard Shattuck, Festival promoter and theater owner. “Hands Down the hottest act at the festival” stated Denny.
His playing was described as “Really tasty guitar work” by Bruce Iglauer- Alligator Records.
Fans look forward to repeat performances. “The wait staff was wonderful the music was phenomenal, but it always is when the Michal Bailey Band is playing here…” Yahoo user review of Nancy Whiskeys in Detroit.
Michal is constantly writing new material. "It's hard for me to put the guitar down, and when I do, I wanna pick it up”. Michal is currently working on his third full length CD, slated to be released n 2011. He is likely to be previewing the new songs in front of a live audience before they are released.
